Mark 10:2-16 shows how Jesus advanced the causes of women and children on the earth.
A man asked a trick question about divorce, from the man's perspective, of course.
Jesus referred him back to Moses. Actually Moses' law that allowed for divorce was much more humane toward women than the way men acted without that law. Since in the day of Moses most women were considered possessions of the males in their lives, the men could abuse, shame, torture, and kill, or simply abandon to those fates, any woman in their charge. So Moses set up legal proceedings to give the women some sort of hearing and status.
Then Jesus reminded them that this law of Moses was given because human hearts were hardened toward one another. He took them further back to the origination of marriage, bringing male and female into equality in the very words of His statement. Though they're two and different, they will be one and equal.
The very next image in this passage is of Jesus pushing back the men who would keep the children away from Him, telling those children that the Kingdom of God is theirs, taking them up in His arms and blessing them.
That's me. I'm the little child. I'm greatful for the image of Jesus' motherly care for me, and for the image of Jesus' fatherly care for me. I need them both.
