James 3:1-12

With all my exercising efforts for diction and youthful face and gum strength and tooth preservation and sinus clearing--I have discovered that the tongue is a marvelous instrument. The tongue is essentially one mass of muscle. Here are some things I think as I consider the tongue.

1. The reason children can learn languages without accent is that their tongue muscles have not yet atrophied from using only those specific muscles needed for  one language. Does it make sense?

2. There are probably some tongue muscle strands that I have never used since my birth. It would probably be very improbable for me to recover their use in my senior years. Oops. Use it or lose it.

3. There are probably some of my tongue muscle strands that are withering from disuse at this very moment. This thought causes me to decide almost frantically that I will discover all the range of motion still possible to me and develop exercises to retain as much as I can.

All this causes me to consider what kind of words do I use, and what emotions and motives pull on the muscles involved when I speak.

James has quite a bit to say about the power and use of the tongue. Looks like James thinks no human can tame the tongue. I do believe God can!
