Psalm 22: Anger
Written by Wilma Zalabak, M.Div.

I crucified You, O, my God,
Last night in anger fierce.
I drove the nails, I drew the blood,
I spat upon Your beard.

I stand here, hammer in my hand
(My pillow wet with tears).
Go ahead and writhe upon that stand;
My pain perhaps You’ll hear.

O, God, my God, where have You been
While terror stole my rights?
Injustice cycles never end,
And children cry all night.

I came here seeking last appeal.
A hearing You will give.
I found You, hurt You, now You feel. . . .
Sinking, I hear ". . . forgive . . ."

My dream was vivid with impression and drenched with feeling on a very dark night. Now, afterward, I know God was with me, absorbing the blows, spreading forgiveness, and collecting me when finally all I could do was to relax, exhausted and relinquishing, into God’s arms.
