Most people I know, at least some time in their life, thought life ought to be fair.
We want it to be true that good people get good things.
Further, we think that, if there's a God, this God ought to make sure that justice rules.
So did the Psalmist.
Mostly, what this passage does for me is assure me that others have felt the same way, and that it's okay to pray with strong emotion for peace and justice.
On the other hand, I recognize that if I received real justice for all my choices . . . well, sometimes I'm grateful that life is not fair. |
