Recently I paraphrased Psalm 30 and used in public prayer in church:
We will lift you up, O Lord, because You have lifted us up. You have not let the enemy rejoice over us.
O Lord, our God, we cried to You and You have healed us. (List certain recent healings with thanks.) You brought us back from death, or depression, or deep worries, or debilitating stress. You kept us alive this week. (List other praises.)
We sing to You, Lord, and give thanks whenever we remember Your holiness. Your anger was but a moment. In Your smile and favor is life. Our weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. And in our prosperity we gained confidence in You saying, "We shall never be moved." Lord, by Your favor You made our projects to stand strong, but when You hid Your face we were troubled.
We cry now to You, O Lord. To the Lord we make supplication. Because, what good does it do You if we bleed and die? Will our dust praise You? Will our death declare Your truth? Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on us. O Lord, be Yourself our Helper.
(List prayer requests. Invite others to call out names, or say them silently, for rememberance. Allow a period of silence.)
Ah, Lord, You are at work even now on these requests to turn our mourning into dancing. You have taken away our sad clothes and have dressed us in gladness.
In order that our happiness may sing praise to You, and not keep it to ourselves, O Lord our God, we will give thanks to You forever! |
